In recent years, we have seen more and more celebrities opening a national dialogue on mental health, some even discussing their own struggles. NBA star Steph Curry joins the league of celebrities involved in the mental health conversation through a new ad with Kaiser Permanente, Complex reports.
The ad, titled ‘Curry Overcomes,’ depicts Curry in a dark room standing in front of a pod. Once the pod opens, it reveals a pool of water. Curry enters the pod and sinks into the water as the voices of his critics and doubters echo around him.
“Can Curry deliver?” one wonders.
“You looked overwhelmed out there,” another notes.
As these words fill the chambers of Curry’s mind, dozens of basketballs fall around him while basketball nets masquerade as if sea monsters.
Once Curry manages to clear his mind, he emerges from the pod – poised and ready to play. The tagline, “Train your mind. The body will follow” is emblazoned on the screen.
This ad is part of Kaiser Permanente’s mental health and wellness promotion efforts. By depicting a wildly popular and successful NBA star struggle with anxiety, stress, and self-doubt, Kaiser Permanente is showing us that we, too, can overcome.
