Military spouses can now use their professional licenses across state lines thanks to the Joining Forces initiative spearheaded by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, the Washington Examiner reports.
The newest aspect of Joining Forces is aimed at military spouses and the difficulties they face in their careers due to constant relocation.
Military spouses with careers that require professional licenses such as nursing, childcare, and accounting, will more easily be able to transfer their licenses across state lines. President Obama praised this salute to military spouses in his weekly address just prior to Independence Day.
“Our troops are often transferred from base to base. It’s part of the job,” he said. “And because their families serve with them, that means their spouses move 10 times more often than the rest of us. Ten times more often. That’s tough on a career. And more than one in three of these spouses works in a profession that requires a professional license or certification.”
