Last week, rapper Kid Cudi shared in a Facebook post that he checked himself into rehab for depression and suicidal urges, CNN reports.
Cudi opened up about his lifelong struggles with anxiety and depression, stating, “I am not at peace.”
He checked himself into rehab in hopes of reaching the peace he seeks.
“If I didn’t come here, I would’ve done something to myself,” Cudi wrote. “I simply am a damaged human swimming in a pool of emotions everyday of my life. Theres a ragin violent storm inside my heart at all times.”
This is not the first time Cudi has discussed his mental health battles. He also openly discussed turning to drugs to cope in April .
Other artists have expressed support for Cudi’s honesty.
Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy tweeted, “speaking out and letting the world see your humanity is inspiring.”
Rapper T. Carrier also expressed support via Twitter, saying, “wow your letter just made me cry. i can relate on so many levels & i admire your courage.”
Cudi’s openness sparked an important conversation about mental illness and seeking help. If you are struggling with mental illness and suicidal urges, please do not hesitate to seek help.
