New York City’s Safe Horizon: A model program for victims of domestic abuse. Individual, family and group counseling is available at shelters and offices throughout the five boroughs. In addition to domestic violence, the organization provides counseling for survivors of childhood sexual assault, people coping with the trauma having lost a family member to homicide, as well as incest survivors. The organization provides aid and support to 250,000 people every year.

The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN): Victims of sexual assault find local counseling to help them cope when they come into contact with officials here. RAINN-affiliated counselors are trained to aid in moments of crisis, as well as assist victims in finding ongoing support, be it individual counseling or peer support. RAINN is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, educating over 120 million people each year.

The PTSD Break the Silence Page on Facebook: Created as a place for sufferers of post traumatic stress to share their experiences and spread awareness about the disorder. Although the page stresses that they are not in any way a replacement for professional help, the site’s main goal is to let sufferers know that they are not alone in their fight. Since launching in 2014, the site has garnered over 240,000 likes.
